I Want to Adopt a Newborn

If you are ready to explore domestic newborn adoption, Open Arms Adoption Co. is here to help you understand the process, complete the necessary steps, and move forward with confidence.

From your first application through home study, matching, placement, and finalization, our team helps coordinate the people, paperwork, communication, and professional services involved in your adoption journey.

A Clear Path Toward Adoption

Adoption involves important decisions, documents, evaluations, professionals, and legal steps. You do not have to figure everything out on your own.

Open Arms Adoption Co. provides guidance throughout the process and helps coordinate your adoption journey from your initial application through placement and post-placement requirements.

Your Adoption Journey

What Happens After You Apply?

Our process begins with a short online application. After we receive it, our team contacts you to discuss your situation, answer questions, and explain the next steps.

1

Initial Application

You begin with an online application through our private agency process. This gives our team basic information about you and helps us understand what you are looking for.

$500 application fee

The application fee is 85% refundable ($425), with $75 non-refundable, subject to applicable terms.

2

Consultation & Client File

After your application is received, an Open Arms team member contacts you for a consultation. If you move forward, we open your client file, assign a caseworker, and provide access to the appropriate private client portal and document checklists.

3

Home Study & Background Checks

Your home study process includes required background checks, financial and medical documentation, interviews, and a home safety walkthrough with your assigned social worker.

$1,000

This covers the home-study evaluation and related professional work.

4

Approval & Family Profile

Once your home study is approved, we help prepare your family profile. Your profile allows appropriate expectant parents and adoption professionals to learn about your family, your home, your values, and the life you hope to provide.

5

Active Agency Program

After home-study approval, your family can enter our active adoption program. Open Arms provides ongoing case management, communication, coordination, and support while you are waiting for an appropriate adoption opportunity.

$5,000 agency program fee

50% is due when your home study is approved and you enter the program. The remaining 50% is due when an adoption opportunity results in a match or placement.

6

Matching & Adoption Opportunity

When an appropriate adoption opportunity becomes available, our team helps coordinate communication and the next steps. An opportunity may involve a newborn who has already been born and is legally eligible for adoption, or an expectant mother considering an adoption plan during pregnancy.

7

Placement

When the necessary requirements are met and placement is appropriate, we coordinate with the professionals involved to help guide the transition of the child into your care.

Depending on the adoption plan, the expectant mother’s wishes, and applicable requirements, an adoptive family may potentially participate in birth or hospital planning.

8

Post-Placement & Finalization

After placement, required post-placement supervision continues. Your social worker may conduct visits over several months, while your adoption attorney handles the legal process leading toward finalization.

Approximately $3,000

This is separate from the $5,000 agency program fee and may include attorney services, court filings, required reports, and related legal work.

Adoption Opportunities

There Is More Than One Path to a Newborn Adoption

Adoption opportunities can develop in different circumstances. Open Arms helps coordinate the process while respecting the expectant or birth parent's choices and applicable legal requirements.

Already-Born Newborn

An adoption opportunity may involve a newborn who has already been born and is legally eligible for adoption. When an appropriate opportunity is available, approved families may be considered based on the circumstances and the family's profile.

Our team helps coordinate communication and the professional steps involved in moving toward placement.

Expectant Mother Considering Adoption

An expectant mother may contact Open Arms during pregnancy while considering an adoption plan. She can receive counseling, support, and information about her options.

If appropriate, a potential match may be facilitated before birth. Depending on her wishes and applicable requirements, an adoptive family may potentially participate in birth or hospital planning.

Your Family Profile

Help Expectant Parents Get to Know Your Family

Your family profile is an important part of the adoption process. It gives expectant parents an opportunity to learn about who you are and the life you hope to provide for a child.

Depending on the information appropriate for your profile, families may share their story, interests, home, careers, children, pets, values, traditions, and hopes for the future.

Open Arms can help guide you through the information needed to present your family thoughtfully and authentically.
